Red Rock State Park A state park featuring a red sandstone canyon outside the city of Sedona. The main mission of this day-use park is the preservation of the riparian habitat along Oak Creek. Serves as an environmental education facility for the public and for school or private groups, and provides limited passive recreational opportunities. 02. Oak Creek Canyon A river gorge located in northern Arizona between the cities of Flagstaff and Sedona. The canyon is often described as a smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon because of its scenic beauty. About 12 miles (19 km) long, ranging in width from 0.8 to 2.5 miles (1.3 to 4.0 km). The depth of the canyon ranges from 800 to 2,000 feet (240 to 610 m). 03. Slide Rock State Park A state park of Arizona, USA, taking its name from a natural water slide formed by the slippery bed of Oak Creek. There are three hiking trails in Slide Rock State Park: Pendley Homestead Trail (.25 miles), Slide Rock Route (.3 miles), and Clifftop Nature Trail (.25). Slide Rock State Park attracted 254,584 visitors in 2005 and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Arizona. 04. Chapel of the Holy Cross A Roman Catholic chapel built into the buttes of Sedona, Arizona, run by the Diocese of Phoenix, as a part of St. John Vianney Parish in Sedona. In 2007, Arizonans voted the Chapel to be one of the Seven Man-Made Wonders of Arizona, and it is also the site of one of the so-called Sedona vortices. 05. Cathedral Rock A famous landmark on the Sedona. One of the most-photographed sights in Arizona. Is carved from the Permian Schnebly Hill formation, a redbed sandstone formed from coastal sand dunes near the shoreline of the ancient Pedregosa Sea. Ripple marks are prominent along the lower Cathedral Rock trail, and a black basalt dike may be seen in the first saddle. 06. Bell Rock A butte, composed of horizontally bedded sedimentary rock of the Permian Supai Formation. A popular tourist attraction just north of the Village of Oak Creek, Arizona. Has an elevation at its summit of 4,919 feet (1,499 m). 07. Honanki A cliff dwelling and rock art site located in the Coconino National Forest. The Sinagua people of the Ancient Pueblo Peoples, and ancestors of the Hopi people, lived here from about 1100 to 1300 CE. Was one of the largest prehistoric pueblos in the Verde Valley. 08. Courthouse Butte A butte just north of the Village of Oak Creek. Geologically, Courthouse Butte is composed of horizontally bedded sedimentary rock of the Permian Supai Formation. Summit elevation is 5,440 feet (1,660 m). 09. Sycamore Canyon The second largest canyon in the Arizona redrock country. The 21-mile (34 km) long scenic canyon reaches a maximum width of about 7 miles (11 km). One of the oldest designated Wilderness Areas in Arizona, originally being a Forest Service "Primitive Area" prior to the Wilderness Act of 1964. 10. Seven Canyons Golf facility. Located on 200 stunningly beautiful acres in Sedona, Seven Canyons represents an opportunity of a lifetime for members and owners seeking premier relaxation, unparalleled golf and limitless outdoor activities. In this travel video guide to Scottsdale, Arizona, I travel to Scottsdale, the so-called "Miami Beach" of Arizona. Located just to the east of Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions. I start of my travel in Scottsdale visiting downtown, otherwise known as "Old Town," the very walkable central part of the city full of small shops and a booming restaurant scene. It is also here that the city's roots can be traced back to the original farmers and settlers that called this otherwise barren part of the desert home back in the early 1900's. I then head east into Tonto National Park to go kayaking down the Salt River with Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA), the area's premiere outdoor adventure company. Next, I visit Taliesin West, the school/winter home of America's most famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Here I explore the unique structures and landscapes that make up Wright's real-world laboratory for he and his students' architectural ideas. Then I head back into nature with AOA to go hiking in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a 30,000-acre preserve located just minutes from the city, and a perfect place to explore the unique landscape of the desert -- even when the temperature exceeds 100 degrees. Last, I head inside and give a tour of my sweet pad at the Hotel Valley Ho, probably one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed in. Harkening back to its Mid-Century roots, the hotel's unique architecture and swanky rooms makes it one of the premiere places to rest your head while staying in Scottsdale.
